England beats Belgium in extra time to reach World Cup quarterfinals
BOLOGNA, Jun. 26, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : England qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1990 FIFA World Cup courtesy of a 1-0 extra time victory over Belgium (following a 0-0 draw in regulation) on Tuesday night at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara in Bologna.
The score was still nil-all after the 90 minutes of regulation time and both teams had to wait for overtime to settle the issue. In the 119th minute, it was ultimately the English midfielder David Platt who brought the Three Lions to victory by scoring the winning goal.
