Argentina beats Italy in shoot out to reach World Cup final
NAPLES, Jul. 3, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Argentina reached the FIFA World Cup final for the fourth time in their history after defeating Italy 4-3 on penalties (after a 1-1 draw) on Tuesday night at the San Paolo Stadium in Naples.
The score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Salvatore Schillaci ('17) for Italy and Claudio Caniggia ('67) for Argentina. The Argentines finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 4-3.
