SEVILLE, Nov. 16, 1988 (AMP) — Italy 90 (European Qualifiers) : Spain defeated Ireland by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 1990 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

The result put the Spaniard second in Group 6 with 2 points. Ireland is fourth with one point. In their next game, Spain will meet group leaders Northern Ireland on December 21, while Ireland will face Hungary.
