BELFAST, Feb. 8, 1989 (AMP) — Italy 90 (European Qualifiers) : Spain defeated Northern Ireland by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 1990 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

The result put the Spaniard top of Group 6 with 8 points. Northern Ireland is third with 3 points. In their next game, Spain will meet Malta on March 23, while Northern Ireland will face Malta.
