DUBLIN, Apr. 26, 1989 (AMP) — Italy 90 (European Qualifiers) : Ireland defeated Spain by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 1990 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

The result put the Spaniard top of Group 6 with 10 points. Ireland is fourth with 4 points. In their next game, Spain will meet second-placed Hungary on October 11, while Ireland will face Malta.
