WASHINGTON, D.C., Jul. 2, 1994 (AMP) — USA 94 : Spain qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1994 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 win against Switzerland (halftime: 1-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C..
Spain dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by defender Fernando Hierro in the 15th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Spaniards further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Enrique '74 and Begiristain '86/penalty).
