Sweden beats Romania in shoot out to advance to World Cup semifinals
STANFORD, Jul. 10, 1994 (AMP) — USA 94 : Sweden reached the semifinals of the 1994 FIFA World Cup after defeating Romania 5-4 on penalties (after a 2-2 draw) on Sunday at the Stanford Stadium.
The score was still 2-2 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Tomas Brolin ('78) and Kennet Andersson ('115) for Sweden and Florin Raducioiu ('88, '101) for Romania. The Swedishs finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 5-4.
