USA beats Mexico to reach World Cup quarterfinals
JEONJU, Jun. 17, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : The United States qualified to the quarter-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win against Mexico (halftime: 1-0) on Monday afternoon at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium.
The United States dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Brian McBride in the 8th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Americans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Donovan in the 65th minute.
