Brazil beats England to advance to World Cup semifinals
SHIZUOKA, Jun. 21, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Brazil reached the semifinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup with a 2-1 win against England (halftime: 1-1) on Friday afternoon at the Shizuoka Stadium.
English forward Michael Owen opened the score in the 23rd minute, before seeing Brazil catch up in the 45th minute thanks to Rivaldo. 1-1 at half time. The Brazilians eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Ronaldinho in the 50th minute.
