Turkey beats Senegal in extra time to advance to World Cup semifinals
OSAKA, Jun. 22, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : Turkey reached the semifinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup courtesy of a 1-0 extra time victory over Senegal (following a 0-0 draw in regulation) on Saturday night at the Nagai Stadium in Osaka.
The score was still nil-all after the 90 minutes of regulation time and both teams had to wait for overtime to settle the issue. In the 94th minute, it was ultimately the Turkish striker İlhan Mansız who brought Turkey to victory by scoring the winning goal.
