South Korea beats Spain in shoot out to advance to World Cup semifinals
GWANGJU, Jun. 22, 2002 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 : South Korea reached the semifinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup after defeating Spain 5-3 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw) on Saturday afternoon at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium.
The score was still nil-all at the end of the regulation game time and overtime. The Koreans finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 5-3.
