DAMASCUS, May. 11, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (Asian Qualifiers) : Syria defeated Laos by a big score of 9-1 (halftime: 3-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup on Friday afternoon.
The result put the Syrians top of Group 1 with 12 points. Laos is bottom with no points. In their next game, Syria will meet second-placed Oman on May 18, while Laos will face the Philippines.
