SAN JOSé, Sep. 5, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (American Qualifiers) : Costa Rica defeated the United States by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup (Final) on Wednesday night.
The result put the Costa Ricans top of the group with 19 points. USA is fourth with 13 points. In their next game, Costa Rica will meet third-placed Mexico on October 7, while the United States will face Jamaica.
