MONTEVIDEO, Jul. 1, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (South American Qualifiers) : Uruguay defeated Brazil by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Sunday afternoon.

The result put the Brazilians fourth in the group with 21 points. Uruguay is 5th with 21 points. In their next game, Brazil will meet second-placed Paraguay on August 15, while Uruguay will face Venezuela.
