BUENOS AIRES, Sep. 5, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (South American Qualifiers) : Argentina defeated Brazil by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Wednesday night.

The result put the Argentine top of the group with 38 points. Brazil is fourth with 24 points. In their next game, Argentina will meet second-placed Paraguay on October 7, while Brazil will face Chile.
