LJUBLIANA, Sep. 1, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (European Qualifiers) : Slovenia defeated Russia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup on Saturday night.
The result put the Russians top of Group 1 with 17 points. Slovenia is second with 16 points. In their next game, Russia will meet the Faroe islands on September 5, while Slovenia will face Yugoslavia.
