REYKJAVíK, Oct. 11, 2000 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (European Qualifiers) : Iceland defeated Northern Ireland by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday night.

The result put the Irish fourth in Group 3 with 4 points. Iceland is 5th with 3 points. In their next game, Northern Ireland will meet group leaders Czech republic on March 24, while Iceland will face Bulgaria.
