REYKJAVíK, Jun. 2, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (European Qualifiers) : Iceland defeated Malta by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup on Saturday afternoon.

The result put the Icelander fourth in Group 3 with 9 points. Malta is bottom with one point. In their next game, Iceland will meet group leaders Bulgaria on June 6, while Malta will face Denmark.
