BELFAST, Sep. 5, 2001 (AMP) — Korea Japan 2002 (European Qualifiers) : Northern Ireland defeated Iceland by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday night.

The result put the Icelander fourth in Group 3 with 13 points. Northern Ireland is 5th with 8 points. In their last game, Iceland will meet group leaders Denmark on October 6, while Northern Ireland will face Malta.
