Italy beats Australia to reach World Cup quarterfinals
KAISERSLAUTERN, Jun. 26, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Italy qualified to the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 win against Australia (halftime: 0-0) on Monday afternoon at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with a saving goal by Italian forward Francesco Totti on penalty in stoppage time.
