France beats Spain to reach World Cup quarterfinals
HANOVER, Jun. 27, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : France qualified to the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup with a 3-1 win against Spain (halftime: 1-1) on Tuesday night at the Niedersachsenstadion in Hanover.
Spanish forward David Villa opened the score in the 28th minute on penalty, before seeing France catch up in the 41st minute thanks to Franck Ribéry. 1-1 at half time. The Frenchs eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Vieira ('83) and Zidane ('90).
