Italy beats Ukraine to advance to World Cup semifinals

HAMBURG, Jun. 30, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Italy reached the semifinals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 win against Ukraine (halftime: 1-0) on Friday night at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

Luca Toni scored dual goals

Italy dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by defender Gianluca Zambrotta in the 6th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Italians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Toni '59, '69).
