Portugal beats England in shoot out to advance to World Cup semifinals
GELSENKIRCHEN, Jul. 1, 2006 (AMP) — Germany 2006 : Portugal reached the semifinals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup after defeating England 3-1 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw) on Saturday afternoon at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen.
The score was still nil-all at the end of the regulation game time and overtime. The Portugueses finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 3-1.
