Uruguay beats Ghana in shoot out to advance to World Cup semifinals
JOHANNESBURG, Jul. 2, 2010 (AMP) — South Africa 2010 : Uruguay reached the semifinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup after defeating Ghana 4-2 on penalties (after a 1-1 draw) on Friday night at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
The score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Sulley Muntari ('45) for Ghana and Diego Forlán ('55) for Uruguay. The Uruguayans finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 4-2.
