Spain beats Netherlands 1-0 in extra time to win 2010 World Cup
JOHANNESBURG, Jul. 11, 2010 (AMP) — South Africa 2010 : Spain claimed the FIFA World Cup crown courtesy of a 1-0 extra time victory over the Netherlands (following a 0-0 draw in regulation) in the final on Sunday night at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
The score was still nil-all after the 90 minutes of regulation time and both teams had to wait for overtime to settle the issue. In the 116th minute, it was ultimately the Spanish midfielder Andrés Iniesta who brought La Roja to victory by scoring the winning goal.
