NICOSIA, Sep. 5, 2009 (AMP) — South Africa 2010 (European Qualifiers) : Ireland defeated Cyprus by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a qualifying game for the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Saturday night.
The result put the Irish top of Group 8 with 16 points. Cyprus is fourth with 5 points. In their next game, Ireland will meet second-placed Italy on October 10, while Cyprus will face Montenegro.
