Germany beats Algeria in extra time to reach World Cup quarterfinals
PORTO ALEGRE, Jun. 30, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : Germany qualified to the quarter-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup courtesy of a 2-1 extra time victory over Algeria (following a 0-0 draw in regulation) on Monday afternoon at the Beira-Rio Stadium in Porto Alegre.
The score was still nil-all after the 90 minutes of regulation time and both teams had to wait for overtime to settle the issue. The Germans finally broke through with goals from Schürrle ('92) and Özil ('120), while Djabou ('120) scored for Algeria.
