Argentina beats Switzerland in extra time to reach World Cup quarterfinals
SãO PAULO, Jul. 1, 2014 (AMP) — Brazil 2014 : Argentina qualified to the quarter-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup courtesy of a 1-0 extra time victory over Switzerland (following a 0-0 draw in regulation) on Tuesday afternoon at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo.
The score was still nil-all after the 90 minutes of regulation time and both teams had to wait for overtime to settle the issue. In the 118th minute, it was ultimately the Argentine midfielder Ángel Di María who brought La Albiceleste to victory by scoring the winning goal.
