World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Ecuador beats Uruguay 2-1
QUITO, Nov. 12, 2015 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Ecuador defeated Uruguay by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Thursday afternoon at the Atahualpa Olympic Stadium in Quito.
Ecuador dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Felipe Caicedo in the 23rd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Ecuadorians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Martínez in the 59th minute.
The result put the Ecuadorians top of the group with 9 points. Uruguay is second with 6 points. In their next game, Ecuador will meet Venezuela at the Atahualpa Olympic Stadium on November 17, while Uruguay will face Chile.
