MENDOZA, Sep. 1, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Argentina defeated Uruguay by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Thursday night at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza.
All the action happened in the first half, with Argentine striker Lionel Messi goal in the 43rd minute.
The result put the Argentine top of the group with 14 points. Uruguay is second with 13 points. In their next game, Argentina will meet Venezuela at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas on September 6, while Uruguay will face Paraguay.
