World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Colombia beats Venezuela 2-0
BARRANQUILLA, Sep. 1, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Colombia defeated Venezuela by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Thursday afternoon at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla.
Colombia dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder James Rodríguez in the 45th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Colombians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by M. Torres with just 8 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Colombians third in the group with 13 points. Venezuela is bottom with one point. In their next game, Colombia will meet Brazil at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez on September 6, while Venezuela will face Argentina.
