World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Venezuela hold Argentina to 2-2
MéRIDA, Sep. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Venezuela tied 2-2 with Argentina (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Tuesday night at the Estadio Metropolitano de Mérida.
The Venezuelans started off well by taking the lead thanks to Juanpi in the 34th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, and despite Martínez goal ('53) in the second period, they could not prevent a comeback by Argentina with goals by Pratto ('57) and Nicolás Otamendi ('82).
The result put the Argentine top of the group with 15 points. Venezuela is bottom with 2 points. In their next game, Argentina will meet Peru at the Estadio Metropolitano de Mérida on October 6, while Venezuela will face Uruguay.
