World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Uruguay beats Venezuela 3-0
MONTEVIDEO, Oct. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Uruguay defeated Venezuela by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Thursday night at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Edinson Cavani scored dual goals
Uruguay dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro in the 29th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Uruguayans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Cavani '46, '79).
The result put the Uruguayans top of the group with 19 points. Venezuela is bottom with 2 points. In their next game, Uruguay will meet Colombia at the Estadio Centenario on October 11, while Venezuela will face Brazil.
