World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Paraguay defeats Ecuador 2-1
ASUNCIóN, Mar. 23, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Paraguay defeated Ecuador by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Thursday night at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asunción.
Paraguay dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Valdez in the 11th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Paraguayans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Alonso in the 65th minute.
The result put the Ecuadorians fourth in the group with 20 points. Paraguay is 7th with 18 points. In their next game, Ecuador will meet third-placed Colombia at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium on March 28, while Paraguay will face Brazil.
