World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Paraguay defeats Chile 3-0
SANTIAGO, Aug. 31, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Paraguay defeated Chile by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Thursday night at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano in Santiago.
Paraguay dominated the first half as a result of the unfortunate own goal scored by midfielder Arturo Vidal in the 24th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Paraguayans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Cáceres '55 and Ortiz '90).
The result put the Chilians 5th in the group with 21 points. Paraguay is 6th with 21 points. In their next game, Chile will meet Bolivia at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano on September 5, while Paraguay will face Uruguay.
