World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Chile beats Ecuador 2-1
SANTIAGO, Oct. 5, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (South American Qualifiers) : Chile defeated Ecuador by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Qualifying Tournament) on Thursday night at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano in Santiago.
Chile dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Eduardo Vargas in the 22nd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Chilians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Sánchez with just 5 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Chilians 5th in the group with 24 points. Ecuador is 8th with 20 points. In their last game, Chile will meet group leaders Brazil at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano on October 10, while Ecuador will face Argentina.
