RIGA, Oct. 7, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : The Faroe islands defeated Latvia by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday night at the Skonto Stadium in Riga.
The Faroe islands dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Nattestad in the 19th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Faroeses further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Edmundsson in the 70th minute.
The result put the Faroese second in Group B with 4 points. Latvia is fourth with 3 points. In their next game, the Faroe islands will meet third-placed Portugal at the Skonto Stadium on October 10, while Latvia will face Hungary.
