FARO, Nov. 13, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Portugal defeated Latvia by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday night at the Estádio Algarve in Faro.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored dual goals
Portugal dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the 28th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Portugueses further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Carvalho '70, Ronaldo '85 and Alves '90).
The result put the Portuguese second in Group B with 9 points. Latvia is 5th with 3 points. In their next game, Portugal will meet third-placed Hungary at the Estádio Algarve on March 25, while Latvia will face Switzerland.
