World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Switzerland beats Faroe islands 2-0
LUCERNE, Nov. 13, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Switzerland defeated the Faroe islands by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday night at the Swissporarena in Lucerne.
Switzerland dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Eren Derdiyok in the 27th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Swisss further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Lichtsteiner with just 7 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Swiss top of Group B with 12 points. The Faroe islands is fourth with 4 points. In their next game, Switzerland will meet Latvia at the Swissporarena on March 25, while the Faroe islands will face Andorra.
