GENEVA, Mar. 25, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Switzerland defeated Latvia by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday night at the Stade de Genève.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with a saving goal by Swiss forward Josip Drmić in the 66th minute.
The result put the Swiss top of Group B with 15 points. Latvia is 5th with 3 points. In their next game, Switzerland will meet the Faroe islands at the Stade de Genève on June 9, while Latvia will face Portugal.
