World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Switzerland beats Faroe islands 2-0
TóRSHAVN, Jun. 9, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Switzerland defeated the Faroe islands by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday night at the Torsvollur Stadium in Tórshavn.
Switzerland dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Granit Xhaka in the 36th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Swisss further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Shaqiri in the 59th minute.
The result put the Swiss top of Group B with 18 points. The Faroe islands is fourth with 5 points. In their next game, Switzerland will meet Andorra at the Torsvollur Stadium on August 31, while the Faroe islands will face Portugal.
