RIGA, Jun. 9, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Portugal defeated Latvia by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday night at the Skonto Stadium in Riga.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored dual goals
Portugal dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the 41st minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Portugueses further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Ronaldo '63 and A. Silva '67).
The result put the Portuguese second in Group B with 15 points. Latvia is bottom with 3 points. In their next game, Portugal will meet the Faroe islands at the Skonto Stadium on August 31, while Latvia will face Hungary.
