World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Portugal beats Faroe islands 5-1
PORTO, Aug. 31, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Portugal defeated the Faroe islands by a big score of 5-1 (halftime: 2-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Estádio do Bessa in Porto.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored tripple goals
Portugal dominated the first half thanks to goals from Ronaldo ('3, '28 on penalty). Leading 2-1 at the break, the Portugueses further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Carvalho '58, Ronaldo '65 and Oliveira '85).
The result put the Portuguese second in Group B with 18 points. The Faroe islands is fourth with 5 points. In their next game, Portugal will meet third-placed Hungary at the Estádio do Bessa on September 3, while the Faroe islands will face Andorra.
