World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Switzerland beats Latvia 3-0
RIGA, Sep. 3, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Switzerland defeated Latvia by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday night at the Skonto Stadium in Riga.
Switzerland dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Haris Seferovic in the 9th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Swisss further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Džemaili '54 and Rodríguez '58/penalty).
The result put the Swiss top of Group B with 24 points. Latvia is bottom with 3 points. In their next game, Switzerland will meet third-placed Hungary at the Skonto Stadium on October 7, while Latvia will face the Faroe islands.
