World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Germany defeats Azerbaijan 4-1
BAKU, Mar. 26, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Germany defeated Azerbaijan by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 3-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday night at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in Baku.
André Schürrle scored dual goals
Germany dominated the first half thanks to goals from Schürrle ('19), Müller ('36) and Gómez ('45). Leading 3-1 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Schürrle with just 9 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Germans top of Group C with 15 points. Azerbaijan is fourth with 7 points. In their next game, Germany will meet San Marino at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium on June 10, while Azerbaijan will face Northern Ireland.
