World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Azerbaijan defeats San Marino 5-1
BAKU, Sep. 4, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Azerbaijan defeated San Marino by a big score of 5-1 (halftime: 2-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday night at the Bakcell Arena in Baku.
Ismayilov scored dual goals
Azerbaijan dominated the first half thanks to goals from Ismayilov ('20) and Abdullayev ('24). Leading 2-0 at the break, the Azerbaijanis further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Ismayilov '57, Cevoli '71/own and Sadygov '81).
The result put the Azerbaijani third in Group C with 10 points. San Marino is bottom with no points. In their next game, Azerbaijan will meet Czech republic at the Bakcell Arena on October 5, while San Marino will face Norway.
