World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Serbia and Ireland play to a 2-2 draw
BELGRADE, Sep. 5, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Serbia tied 2-2 with Ireland (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday night at the Red Star Stadium in Belgrade.
The Irishs started off well by taking the lead thanks to Irish midfielder Jeff Hendrick in the 3rd minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, and despite Murphy goal ('80) in the second period, they could not prevent a comeback by Serbia with goals by Filip Kostić ('62) and Dusan Tadic ('69 on penalty).
The result left both teams tied in the third place of Group D with one point. In their next game, Ireland will meet Georgia at the Red Star Stadium on October 6, while Serbia will face Moldova.
