World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Austria hold Wales to 2-2
VIENNA, Oct. 6, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Austria tied 2-2 with Wales (halftime: 1-2), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday night at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna.
The Welshs started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Allen ('22) and Wimmer ('45 own) while the Austrians only scored once Arnautović ('28). However, even though they were leading 2-1 at half time, they could not prevent a comeback by Austria with a saving goal from Austrian forward Marko Arnautović in the 48th minute.
The result put the Welsh top of Group D with 4 points. Austria is third with 4 points. In their next game, Wales will meet Georgia at the Ernst Happel Stadium on October 9, while Austria will face Serbia.
