VIENNA, Nov. 12, 2016 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Ireland defeated Austria by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday night at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna.
45 minutes of play and neither the Irishs nor the Austrians have managed to pull ahead. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with a saving goal by Irish midfielder James McClean in the 48th minute.
The result put the Irish top of Group D with 10 points. Austria is fourth with 4 points. In their next game, Ireland will meet third-placed Wales at the Ernst Happel Stadium on March 24, while Austria will face Moldova.
