World Cup 2018 Qualifiers : Slovenia beats Malta 2-0
LJUBLJANA, Jun. 10, 2017 (AMP) — Russia 2018 (European Qualifiers) : Slovenia defeated Malta by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday night at the Stozice Stadium in Ljubljana.
Slovenia dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Josip Iličić in the 45th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Slovenians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Novakovič with just 6 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Slovenians second in Group F with 11 points. Malta is bottom with no points. In their next game, Slovenia will meet third-placed Slovakia at the Stozice Stadium on September 1, while Malta will face England.
